Alphanumeric plates began to be issued in June 1979 with sticker expiry year 1980.
Note that although first issued in 1979 there are none dated 1979.
All alphanumerical plates remain valid today if continuously renewed.
They have been issued in several varieties of design and construction as shown below.

Commenciing in May of 1995 only one sticker was issued, to be mounted ont the back plate and therefore there are
plates from this era with no sticker. Commencing with CVX-001 only one plate was issued. Older front plates could
be removed or retained.
The notation "Personal Plate" indicates that the plate was registered to myself and was mounted on my vehicle.

This example suffers from the grey disease in which the sheeting
streaks or more uniformly greys over time.

Following HZZ999 the series will skip to JAA001, estimated to happen in 2028.
The IOO series will be skipped as the letter I is not used on NS plates (except Personalized and Amateur Radio)
